1. Drive Motor
Drive motor horsepower is determined based on process load requirements to achieve desired
velocity gradient value, plus drive efficiencies, frictional loss and a safety factor. All
drive motors include severe duty features. Insulation upgrades can be provided when using
variable frequency drives.

 |
2. Variable Speed Device
Variable speed capabilities allow optimization of the flocculation process. A mechanical
variable speed device, as pictured, provides up to a 5:1 speed ratio using a traction disc
design. A variable frequency drive (VFD) can be supplied which provides up to a 10:1 speed
adjustment, infinitely adjustable in that range. VFD duty motors are required and supplied
for this service.

3. Gear Reducer
Gear reducer selection is based on reduction ratio required to achieve desired paddle tip
speed as well as input horsepower required to achieve process requirements. The preferred
gear reducer gearing design is Helical Bevel. All reducers are provided with severe duty
features, which include wash down ability.

|
4. Drive Shaft Coupling
A drive shaft coupling transfers rotational movement from the drive unit output shaft to
the flocculator shaft. A flexible coupling is provided to allow for minor shaft
misalignment.
|
 |
5. Thrust Collar
A thrust collar absorbs all vertical loads from the flocculator shaft rather than transfer
this load to the output shaft bearing in the gearbox. This thrust collar seats on the
radial thrust bearing (#6) and is pinned to the flocculator shaft. Typical material of
construction is UHMW-PE. The collar is sized based on the required shaft diameter.
|
|
6. Radial Thrust Bearing
A radial thrust bearing absorbs radial movement and supports the thrust collar (#5). The
bearing is a non-expansion flange block design using spherical rollers.
|
|
7. Drive Base
A drive base is specifically designed based on specific job requirements. Above listed
item Nos.1, 2, 3, and 6 mount on this drive base. The drive base mounts on a
support/access bridge and is constructed of concrete or fabricated steel or
aluminum. The flocculator manufacturer design and provide fabricated bridges to
ensure that they are designed based on load requirements of the equipment.

 |
8. Paddle Reel Assemblies
Paddle reel assemblies are provided based on specific job requirements. Paddle arms are
provided in painted carbon steel and stainless steel. Paddle blades are fiberglass as a
standard. Blade widths vary based on process requirements.
|
|
9. Bottom Steady Bearing
A bottom steady bearing provides proper shaft alignment at the basin floor. A bearing
mounting plate provides vertical and horizontal bearing adjustment. This bearing is
typically a water lubricated split journal bearing.
